Embracing the Marathi Language: A Journey Beyond the Classroom

As we step into 2024, we at Marathi Shala are filled with pride and admiration for the remarkable progress our scholars have made. Their enthusiasm and dedication to learning Marathi are truly inspiring. To further support their educational journey, we're introducing a new initiative aimed at enhancing reading and writing practice at home.

Comprehensive Resources for At-Home Practice

Understanding the importance of practice beyond the Shala walls, we have prepared a comprehensive list of Marathi Swar (vowels) and Vyanjane (consonants), complete with examples. This resource is meticulously designed to cover all aspects of the Marathi alphabet, including any missing letters, to ensure a thorough understanding of the language.

Dependent Vowels (Swar): [aa], ि [i], [ii], [u], [uu], [r], [rr], [e], [e], [e], [ai], [o], [o], [o], [au]

Marathi Numbers: [shunya], [ek], [don], [teen], [chaar], [paach], [saha], [saat], [aath], [nau], १० [daha].

Understanding Marathi Vowels, Consonants, and Numbers

The Marathi alphabet, comprising 14 vowels and 36 consonants, is written from left to right. It incorporates nasalized vowels and consonants, denoted by special characters. For instance, "अं" (am) features the nasalization character "". Each consonant is inherently linked to a specific vowel sound, and characters are combined to construct words through ligature.

Marathi uses its distinctive numeral system for expressing numbers, and a vertical right stroke signifies a period or full stop at the end of a sentence.
