A Day of Learning and Fun at Marathi Shala

Energizing Beginnings and Innovative Learning

Date: 1/7/2024

Yesterday's Marathi Shala class was a vibrant blend of learning, fun, and cultural immersion. Our Batch 1 scholars, arriving around 10:10 am, were greeted with an invigorating warm-up activity led by our esteemed teacher volunteer, Amita Ji. This initiative was not only a great way to energize our scholars and volunteers on a chilly morning but also a perfect icebreaker. The attached picture captures the essence of this lively start.

Recap and Progress in Marathi Language

The session for Batch 1 progressed with a thorough recap of all the Marathi Swar (vowels). We then revisited the first two Vyanjane (consonants) and introduced a few more: [k] and [kh]. To reinforce this learning, we assigned homework focusing on two additional Vyanjane: [g] and [gh].

For Batch 2, which saw inspiring attendance, the class took an engaging turn when our teacher volunteer, Puja Ji, asked the scholars in Marathi about their New Year resolutions. The responses were a delightful mix, ranging from new extracurricular activities to learning new skills, visiting different places, and, importantly, enhancing their Marathi language skills.

In an innovative approach to language learning, we recapped the Swar and the first four Vyanjane. This was done interactively by asking scholars to come up with one to two words starting with each Swar and Vyanjane. We then introduced three more Vyanjane: [gh], [ch], and [chh], and demonstrated how to write [j] and [jh], which were given as homework.

Marathi Swar and Vyanjane Antakshari

The highlight of the day for Batch 2 was the Marathi Swar and Vyanjane Antakshari, brought in by Puja Ji. This innovative game was a hit among the scholars, significantly enhancing their vocabulary and engagement with the language. The video and photos attached offer a glimpse into this exciting word game.
