MH Marathi Shala’s First Inaugural Class: When Alphabet Soup Meets Vada Pav

MH Marathi Shala’s First Inaugural Class: When Alphabet Soup Meets Vada Pav

Hello delightful readers,

Can we talk about the first days? Ah, the jitters of the first day—be it at school, a new job, or in our case, the inaugural class of Marathi Shala! You might be thinking, "Can learning Marathi be as interesting as munching on a spicy vada pav during Mumbai rains?" Well, let me walk you through our journey of joy, laughter, and a few Marathi words not alphabet yet!

The Roll Call Saga

With a total of 24 little geniuses (13 in Batch 1 and 11 in Batch 2), our virtual classroom resembled a bustling Mumbai local train, albeit a more organized one. Before we knew it, our volunteer teachers and kids were as synchronized as a well-rehearsed Bollywood dance number.

First Encounters

The class kicked off with introductions all around, and let me tell you, kids these days have names that could be future brand names! Alongside the intros, we dived into the fascinating world of Lord Ganesha because, let's face it, what's a Marathi gathering without our favorite divinity making a cameo?

Game On!

Just to spice things up, we threw in a couple of games like 'Name Alphabet Order.' Think of it as Musical Chairs but with alphabets; it's like playing Scrabble, but without the board and tiles. Another fun exercise was 'Identifying Names'—a game that's one part Sherlock Holmes and two parts 'Kaun Banega Crorepati.'

Homework, But Make It Fun!

Today's class was basically an introductory carnival—a get-to-know-each-other extravaganza. For homework, we've assigned tasks aimed at not just learning but fostering family bonding. We're talking Marathi movies or programs that have more family values than a 'Karan Johar' movie!

The Challenge Ahead

Here’s an honest admission—cultivating interest in Marathi, a language that isn’t a part of their regular school syllabus or their daily conversational list, is like making kids eat broccoli by convincing them it’s green chocolate. But we're up for the challenge!

What’s Cooking Next?

Our next class will be held on Saturday (September 16th) between 10 am to 12 pm PST, where we will be as focused as a cat eyeing a mouse—or in our case, a Ganesha statue!

For the Ganesha Building: Bring flowers and Haldi Kumkum. Workshop Video (https://youtu.be/j4ZGeNuaF9w?si=Ac00cFUktGNSfhXN)

For Ganesha Drawing: Bring your colors, a drawing pad, and a pencil/eraser. Drawing Tutorial (https://youtu.be/3pxu9e9I-T8?si=J6n1tTqTo1SaclGZ)

For those kiddos who'd like to unleash their inner Picassos on Ganesha, rest assured, we'll have printed copies ready for you on workshop day!

So, tighten your seatbelts as we take this joyous ride through Marathi Shala, where the only bumps we expect are those of laughter and enlightenment.

Nurturing Roots, Bridging Cultures: Launching Marathi Shala in Mountain House, CA

Nurturing Roots, Bridging Cultures: Launching Marathi Shala in Mountain House, CA Embrace A New World Through The Marathi Language Learning a language is akin to embracing a new world. With Marathi, this new world is a vibrant tapestry of rich cultures, traditions, and stories that bring communities together. If you've ever thought about the importance of bridging American and Marathi cultures, we welcome you to a journey filled with joy, discovery, and connection. Celebrating Marathi Bhasha Din at Marathi Shala: A Blend of Learning and Cultural Pride

Celebrating Marathi Bhasha Din at Marathi Shala: A Blend of Learning and Cultural Pride Yesterdays's session at Marathi Shala was not just another day of learning; it was a vibrant celebration of Marathi Bhasha Din, a day dedicated to cherishing and promoting the Marathi language. Our scholars, both young and old, immersed themselves in activities that not only enriched their understanding of the language but also deepened their cultural roots. The Morning Begins with Warmth and Devotion As the Batch 1 scholars arrived at 10 AM, the air was filled with anticipation. The session kicked off with a warmup kavayat activity, led by Jayshree Ji and Amita Ji, setting a lively tone for the day. Following this, we delved into a moment of divine learning with the mantra “Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu,” a beautiful homage to the gods and teachers who enlighten our paths.     A Showcase of Marathi Sentences One of the highlights of today's celebration was when each scholar stepped for...
