A Day of Divine Learning and Cultural Immersion at Marathi Shala

A Day of Divine Learning and Cultural Immersion at Marathi Shala

Yesterday's Marathi Shala session was a beautiful blend of tradition, learning, and community spirit. Our Batch 1 class commenced at 10 am with an energizing warm-up activity, Kavayat, where our little scholars enthusiastically followed the steps led by their teacher and volunteers. The session then transitioned into a divine learning experience with the chanting of the "Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu" mantra. This mantra, which honors the Hindu gods and spiritual teachers, was recited line by line, creating an extraordinary atmosphere of reverence and learning. For a glimpse into this moment, we invite you to check out the pictures shared.

The academic portion of the session involved a recap of Swar and Vyanjane, covering [k], [kh], [g], [gh], [ch], [chh], [j], [jh], [t], and [th]. We introduced two more Vyanjane, [d] and [dh], expanding our scholars' vocabulary and enhancing their reading and writing skills.

The highlight of the day was a storytelling session led by our renowned volunteer teacher, Sucheta Ji, who brought to life the famous story of Krishna and Sudama's friendship. With children and parents seated on the carpet, reminiscent of "Aaji bai cha gosti" (grandmother's tales), the story was narrated with the aid of pictures, helping children associate names with faces.

Due to the length of the story, we extended the class by 10 minutes, ensuring everyone could fully enjoy this enriching experience.

This week's homework involves completing existing Swar and Vyanjane writing in the Shala Notebook. We marked attendance using a blend of traditional methods and technology, with 19 students present from Batch 1.

For Batch 2, the session began slightly later at 11:20 am. The learning kicked off with the recitation of Manache slok, imparting timeless wisdom and instructions for the mind.

Following a recap of Swar and Vyanjane, we introduced four additional Vyanjane ( [d], [dha], [n], [p]), encouraging scholars to expand their vocabulary further. The children surprised us with multiple new words for the newly introduced Vyanjane, showcasing their creativity and understanding.

The homework for Batch 2 includes completing Swar and Vyanjane writing in the Shala Notebook and learning two new words for Vyanjane [ph] and [b]. The session concluded with another storytelling session by Sucheta Ji, narrating the Krishna-Sudama story, with 22 students present from Batch 2.

We look forward to next week's Shala session, where we will continue to explore the depths of Marathi language and culture. See you then!
