A Day of Learning and Fun: The Journey of Marathi Vowels at MH Marathi Shala

At MH Marathi Shala, we are on a mission to instill the spirit of the Marathi language and culture in the hearts of the young generation. Nestled in the bustling environment of Mountain House, our school is a haven for kids eager to connect with their roots. Today’s lesson was a testament to our endeavor of making Marathi learning both enriching and fun.

The Day Begins:
The day started bright and early, with our first batch of enthusiastic learners trickling in by 10 a.m. While we had planned a punctual start, we embraced the few extra minutes, officially kickstarting the class at 10:10 a.m. These initial moments were filled with anticipation, excitement, and the joyous chatter of our eager students.

Recapping the Basics:
The session began with a quick recap of the Marathi vowels (
[a], [aa], [i], [ii], [u], [oo]). Our goal was to resonate with the Marathi families and kids residing in America by using names and words that are part of their day-to-day lives. This approach helped the kids relate to the language in a more personal and profound way.

Introducing New Vowels:
Our dedicated teacher and volunteer then proceeded to introduce the new Marathi vowels to the kids. Batch 1 delved into the sounds of
[a] and [ai], while Batch 2 explored [a], [ai], [o], and [au]. The excitement was palpable as the kids eagerly embraced these new phonetic sounds.

Beyond Verbal Learning:
At MH Marathi Shala, we believe in a holistic approach to language learning. We are not just teaching the kids to verbalize the vowels but also ensuring they learn how to write them. The blackboard came alive with the strokes and curves of each vowel. To enhance their writing skills, we provided paper-printed lines complete with step-by-step examples. This methodology aimed at minimizing confusion and encouraging the kids to write neatly and confidently.

The Kids Shine:
The classroom resonated with the sounds of Marathi vowels, accompanied by the scratching of pencils on paper. The kids did a commendable job identifying words and penning down the vowels with finesse. A glance at the photographs from the session is a testament to their enthusiasm and dedication.

Today’s session at MH Marathi Shala was not just about language learning; it was about connecting, embracing, and celebrating our rich culture. The joy on the faces of our young learners is the biggest reward, and we are eager to continue this journey with them.
